See Bed Bugs Eggs

Paul asks…
I have seen one bed bug does that mean there are more?
Last night I was on the couch with my sister who was visiting from out of town and on my pillow she was using was on my legs as we were watching TV. I looked down and saw a bug running across the pillow. I quickly grabbed a paper towel and got hold of the bug. I took it into the kitchen looked at it and sure enough it looked just like a bed bug. Of course I killed it.
I recently was doing research about them for my daughters father (who lives elsewhere) because his families house has an infestation. He came and stayed with us for one night almost 3 weeks ago. I have NEVER seen a big like this before in my house and have stayed here almost 3 years. It was very flat so I assume it had not fed recently but from what I read they lay eggs all the time. So today I took my mattress off my bed after thoroughly checking the seams and all over it and I saw nothing. I vacuumed it and still saw nothing. I checked the box spring and vacuumed it and saw nothing. I should note it was on my couch so I went through today took all the cushions off all of my couches and vacuumed them completely. I saw no bugs, no skins, no stains…nothing to indicate there are others but reading other posts about the same thing has me feeling icky and paranoid that there may be others lurking somewhere in my house. So is it possible that this one bedbug came from my daughter’s fathers visit to my house nearly 3 weeks ago and if so does it mean that there are more in my house? Is there any way it was just the one bug (since this is the first time I have seen one, no bites ever, no indication of others)?
James answers:
Ah man get ready for a ride! I got back from Amsterdam and sure enough a couple weeks later we had bed bugs. We never ever saw them but obviously knew they were there every time we woke up with new bites on our arms (they feed on the upper part of the body, shoulders, arms etc) anyhow our dermatologist said that it couldn’t have been a bad infestation because we never saw anything. He said they feed at dawn so get up at 4 and go check your mattress seems that’s when you will see them. They do travel on clothing blankets things like that that she may have brought over. Don’t worry if it gets worse it’s easy to get rid of if you can’t even see them. We just put all of our clothes from the floor, vacation clothes, and bedding in black trash bags and left them out in the heat. They say they need to do that so they suffocate then we took them to the dry cleaners so that they could wash them on high heat. Theeeen just buy a couple bed bug bombs from Home Depot they are like 6 bucks each and bomb the house. It sounds like a pain but it’s worth it. Do not call an exterminator they are a rip off. They tell you how to prepare which is what I just said then they just come in and spray so you are doing all of the work and they don’t even do anything the bed bug bombs can’t do.

Ruth asks…
My daughter had lice I check 3x a day and dont see anything moving I see nits or eggs but they slide off easy?
we found the infestation friday its now wednesday she hasnt been itching much but recently started itching more and I thought I must have missed something so I continue to check and no bugs just eggs or nits that come right off the hair.Im worried that I did something wrong but I did what the box said to I even covered her hair in a shower cap and the bugs died there were so many dead falling while I combed I was shocked. But I combed for all the nits and eggs and thought I got them all.Ive been looking day by day like 3x a day and like I said Ive still found little things but they come right off I was told they are dead eggs or already hatched eggs and nothing to worry about. But she wakes up today and is still scratching I havent got it although I itch alot I suffer from severe dandruff and we keep checking but nothing yet my son did we shaved his head my mom did we treated her and my dad didnt.I packed all her stuffed animals and dolls.I washed all their clothes and bedding I sprayed the house I vacuumed but Im still questioning what did I do wrong? We had to use 2 treatments the first one didnt work and when she woke the next morning there was still an infestation and the pharmacy said they dont recomend it but to use it anyway. Is this a side effect? am I missing something? her birthday is this friday and I would hate to see her have another case and cancel her 3rd birthday party. Please help.
James answers:
Oh dear what a shame. Well they are a pain once you have them and theres no guarentee you wont get a reacurrence because it only takes one egg and a fresh niot from someone else to start the whole thing back up again.
Tea tree oil/shampoo is very good alongside the treatment for it and if your daughters hair is long, you can always apply the tea tree leave it on and plat her hair so that its not obvious. Could it be fleas? Do u have pets? Also without being funny- if you have cats, scabies is very common. Dandruff could be the cause also. You wont have to cancel her bash as long as you try getting to grips with it. Children of school age will be exposed to it as it passes from one to another.
Unfortunately you cannot stop it but you can help by applying the T-tree when washing her hair.

Laura asks…
Other then head lice, can bed bugs or body lice also live/nest on your head/hair?
Please HELP! About a month 1/2 ago my daughter came hm with “head lice” So i took her in to see her doctor and she prescribed us both some head lice shampoo wash.I followed every instruction and washed her hair,my hair, combed out the eggs and washed everything in our home. With in 2-4 hrs later our head n the back of our necks are still itching. It’s been over a month already and ive washed our hair 3 different times with head lice treatments and nothing were still itching and even worse now! what do i do? Could it be something else?
James answers:
It is possible that she may still have head lice. Head lice in general is really hard to get rid of. If you miss one little egg or nit the whole process starts over again. I know from experience. The eggs hatch every 7-10 days so even after you do a treament and you think you got rid of everything it is possible to see them again 10 days later if you missed an egg.
I would check out Fairy Tales Hair Care products, they specialize in head lice treatments and lice prevention products. Use their Lice Goodbye to get rid of lice and their nits. This product is wonderful because it is natural, chemical free and you can use it as many times as you need because it will never harm your hair. Not like those over the counter treatments that have chemicals in them. The treatment also comes with a comb.
Use their Rosemary Repel Products to prevent lice. THey have Shampoo, Conditioner and Leave In Spray. The leave in spray can be used everyday in the hair and you can even spray down any material thing like bedding, pillows, stuffed animals, inside of your car, carpet.
Also, one thing to consider. Lice can live off of the human head for up to 3 days. So they can be crawling around your home. Do lots of laundry, bedding, clothing etc and vaccum after you do the treatments.
Oh and to answer your question, Bed Bugs do not live or nest in your head or hair, they nest in mattresses, headboards, etc. But they do bite you and suck your blood, that is how they surive. Bed Bugs are bigger then headlice . Fairy Tales also makes a Bed Bug Spray, in case you think you may have that too. BUt you will know the difference because Bed Bugs are bigger in size and you would have bites on your body from them.
Visit their wesbite and see for yourself. Www.fairytaleshaircare.com
I would not use anything else.

Small, egg-shaped, crunchy, brown and black striped bugs in my bed, bathroom, kitchen…?
These tiny bugs (quarter of a pencil eraser) are slow moving and they’re everywhere. They are the shape of an egg with the more narrow end being their head. We’ll find their casings (also striped) from when they go through their life stages or whatever embedded in our clothes that we don’t use often and in tiny holes in the wall. There are a lot in the windowsill and the bathrooms, and we’ll see them crawling across our beds sometimes or they’ll fall out of laundry when folding. Their stripes are zig-zagged and alternate between creme colored brown and a darker, almost black brown. They have hard shells and are crunchy. They look like they might have wings tucked away, but I’ve never seen one fly. Anyone know what these are? Do they bite? We live in Spokane, WA and have dogs, cats, and a bird. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
James answers:
I believe they are carpet beetles. I’ve seen and handled them before, they don’t seem to be capable of harm at all. I’ve never had one bite me, they usually tuck in their legs and “play dead” when disturbed. They can fly, however.

Its been almost 4 days since it started, wr havnt seen anymore searching carefully and still no visible eggs! How worried should I be? Also what should I expect and do? I’m very much so loosing it iv cried and cried which does no good but still! Help! What should I expect and what should I do?!!!
James answers:
So far you are doing a great job at getting rid of the pests but there are other options. Check in the seams of each mattress, couch, or corners of carpets , just any place that is tucked in. Try turning down the thermostat also because bedbugs are very vulnerable to cold temperatures. If you suspect the pests are coming back, go to your local pharmacy and buy the solution for freezing of warts. They will freeze to death , also their eggs. Another remedy is sticky patches, you should buy the sticky traps to test and make sure the bed bugs are gone for good. No reason to be upset hun, it’ll be okay. Bed bugs are an everyday pest for a lot of people.

Ken asks…
How to keep bugs out of my bedroom??? BAD phobia of bugs, PLEASE help.?
So I’ve been finding all kinds of bugs in my bedroom recently.
I’ve been sleeping on my couch the past week in the living room because I find some sort of bug on my comforter/sheets/mattress almost everyday.
Baby spiders OR bed bugs (im not sure) crawl across my sheets. I see atleast one every day. That means theres a nest of them somewhere. Then I found this other bigger looking bug that was like brown and orange and kind of looked like a spider but im not sure what it was. Looked poisonous. I never killed it so for all i know it layed eggs in here somewhere. then I see an earwig every once in a while crawling on my floor.
I have a very bad phobia of bugs. I need to do something about this I want to sleep in my bed again.
Another thing, My mattress is currently on the floor(i dont know if that has anything to do with it) My mattress is right by a big window that has a garden next to it(this probably has a lot to do with it)
I washed my sheets weekly when i was sleeping in my bed.
ANY SUGGESTIONS??? or products???
I am in college and dont have extra money to pay for an exterminator right now.
I am a clean person and dont understand why im cursed with this. Its driving me and my roommates nuts. I constantly feel as if somethings crawling on me.
James answers:
I think that you should be brave and go in your room, move your bed away from the window, and close the window if it’s open. Then sleep on your couch for like two months then they should have starved by then, I guess. But if it’s bed bugs that’s the problem, you might want to get out of your house for about two months because they can sniff you out. Then after you have successfully gotten rid of your bugs, buy this bug repellant stuff. I forget what it’s called but you spray it at the cracks if doors and windows and bug aren’t supposed to be able to enter. I think it’s made by Scott’s I think, not the toilet paper. And if you see the earwig, or orangy spider thing you should kill it, immediately. Ok bye.

Betty asks…
how much does it usually cost to exterminate serious bed bug infestiations in ontario?
My boyfriend has a really bad bed bug problem. It is so bad that even during the day you can see them on furniture and he had like couch cushions on the floor and you can see tons of them and tons of eggs. It has got so bad, you get at the very least 10 bites a night or sometimes up to 20 unless you bundle up and have no showing skin. Its really bad and was wondering how much it normally costs to exterminate them I LIVE IN HAMILTON ONTARIO soo answers from the us probably won’t help.. Also he is renting and we are almost 100% sure its from a couch that the landlord gave him from the top floor of a fourplex and the guy in the basement apartment said he had bed bugs and apparently got rid of them with a vaccum and after much research I know that’s almost impossible to completely get rid of them. So is she responsible? She claims they come in from a house that isn’t clean or travel in on animals even though bed bugs typically cannot walk through hair. Someone please help !! Need to find out information it is sooooo bad!
First of all its my boyfriends house and they are BED BUGS. I don’t need your pointless comments he cannot afford to throw out everything and buy all new furniture pay first and last. Not a lot of people can just pick up and afford to completely start over, was just asking for people who actually know what they’re talking about..he will call but thought we would see what the different costs of different companys instead of just chosing one. Wow! Don’t need your stupid rude comments
Also he does NOT sleep in his bed he sleeps on the couch because it is so bad, but the couch is getting as worse as the bed anyways
Wow so far stupid answers and its proven bed bugs aren’t from dirty people and he lives with a roommate and I’ve been with him for 3years I’m not just going to break up with him .. I just want to know how much it costs not hear how gross they are I clearly know and we are looking into exterminators. Anyone have the answer to my ACTUALquestion?
And if you read my details the bugs are from his landlord or other tendents previously in his apartment he did not ever have them until he recently moved (5 months ago) and bought brand new furniture and a new bed so not possible they had bed bugs
James answers:
The cost for a professional exterminator is from $800 to $2000+ US depending on how many apartments in your boyfriends building are treated. If the infestation is large, meaning that bed bugs are into the walls, then the number could go higher as sprays become a less effective approach and whole building heat treatment is needed.
Given the cost, I’d suggest getting a few quotes. Get one from a well known national chain such as Terminix who will guarantee work and do a free onsite inspection – which is a good educational move to understand the extent of the bed bug problem (phone 877-291-4849). You can also get a quote from local firms to compare treatment methods (chemical such as insecticides and non chemical such as heat, freezing and steam).

Lisa asks…
My daughter has long, VERY THICK hair. She has nits (eggs) for 5 days now, that i am aware of…..?
I have used RID treatment Sunday and Monday and comb her hair with the provided comb everyday since. Yesterday i saw 1 bug, I freaked out and put RID treatment on her head again. Today I see not bugs, but still see nits. When will these go away. I have cleaned all bedding over and over.
James answers:
Go to Walmart, or probably any pharmacy, and get LiceMD. All three of my girls had lice, and I only had to treat and comb their hair once, and it was all gone. The stuff is really oily, and makes hair super greasy, and easy to comb. Plus, the comb is designed just for it. It costs about $10 a bottle, but doesn’t take much, and is worth every dime. I swear by it! Good luck.
*Yes, having lice is gross, but it can happen to anyone, and clean people are more prone to it. Everybody is at risk! I tried everything to protect my kids from it, and they still got it. There is no reason to ridicule anyone about it. It is embarrassing enough to know they are there, and it’s not like anyone asks for it! I’m sorry but that comment was rude.

John asks…
Why does it feel like tiny things or bugs are crawling all over me?
So after months of not washing my comforter (two months of which the comforter wasn’t moved or slept in), I come home and begin to feel things crawling up and down my scalp, legs, thighs, arms, armpits, neck, hands (fingers too), chest, feet, pubic area, back, face (especially in the nose and eyebrows), basically everywhere. I’ve noticed that it’s usually only in the areas with hair. These sensations last the entire day, but they worsen while I’m in bed. It does not matter whether the blanket is covering the area or not, it will still feel like something is crawling. When I check, I am not able to see anything, even when I stare at the area for a while.
This sensation is not a whole mass, or army of bugs. It is only one to a few things crawling in an area or in different parts of the body. However, it’s constant (every second, every minute, etc.)
A few days afterwards, I vacuum the carpet, I wash my comforter, bed sheet, pillow covers, pajamas, some things I’ve been in contact with, and take a really long hot shower, wash my hair, use body wash, etc. I go to bed and I can still feel the crawling.
My parents are too cheap to have me see a doctor or dermatologist or neurologist (they’re expensive, and sometimes they don’t help at all, but charge you $75 for a visit, and what with gas prices..)
I have browsed the internet and this site and I don’t know what my exact problem could be. Possible ones:
- Parasites (bird mites, dust mites, eggs, etc.)
- Something that could develop into a rash later on
- Nerves (causing my hair to stand on end, or send signals of bugs or crawling sensations?)
- My arm hair, leg hair rising up and down (but not because of the wind)
No, this is not restless leg syndrome.
No, I do not think it is lice or bed bugs, otherwise they would be visible.
No, I am not on drugs.
I don’t think this is dry skin, I put lotion on my entire body and could still feel the crawling.
No, I am not imagining this or that it only occurs when I think about it. It happens 24/7, when I am doing other things and not entirely aware of my body.
If anyone could please direct me to some websites that might help me diagnose my problem, or is detailed about one of the possible ones (especially about my hair, I’m starting to think that it’s regarding my body hair, and what causes this?). I have used a number of search terms, and I’m not sure what this could be, or if it’s contagious.
Or if you’re positive you know what I have, please tell me. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
James answers:
Thats gross. Probably the “bed bugs” they can be any number of microscopic insects. You will have to see a dermatologist to get it fixed. Washing or cleaning things wont help because they have probably laid eggs on you and these will just hatch and they will continue the bug-walking-feeling. Or have you been smoking meth? If you have then thats probably it
